I wasn't always sold on essential oil. I had heard of them, of course but like many people, I associated them more with trendy MLM parties than with real healing. What changed my mind wasn't a sales pitch. It was science. Once I understood how and why essential oils worked from a biological perspective, I became curious. And when I actually tried them? I was hooked.


Lavender became my go - to for headaches and calming my nerves. Clary sage was(and still is) my absolute saviour during PMS. Oregano mixed with jojoba on the soles of my feet helped me fight off sickness. Peppermint relieved aches and pains, lemon lifted my mood in my tea, and frankincense quickly found its way into my meditations. I realized that essential oils weren't just a passing craze. They were ancient tools that offered real, natural support for body, mind, and spirit.


Yes, there was a moment when oils were everywhere, and people grew tired of being told there was an oil for everything. But the truth is, nature really does offer medicine. You just have to know how to use it. Let's take a look at the science, the soul, and how these two worlds meet in the magic of essential oils.



THE SCIENCE: WHY ESSENTIAL OILS WORK


Essential oils aren't just lovely smells - they're concentrated plant extracts that contain powerful chemical compounds. When you inhale or apply them, those compounds interact with your body in specific ways:


  • The Olfactory System: When you breathe in an essential oil, it travels through your nose to your olfactory bulb, which connects directly to the limbic system - the part of your brain that controls emotion, memory, and even autonomic functions like heart rate and blood pressure.   • Myrrh - Healing, protective, and grounding; often used in sacred rituals.


  • Palo Santo - Clears negative energy; often burned like incense or used in oil form.


  • Dragon's Blood - Protective and powerful; often used in rituals to strengthen intentions.
