Why Work with the Moon?

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever noticed how the moon has a quiet way of pulling at something deep inside us? Like its cycles somehow reflect our own—the ups and downs, beginnings and endings, times to rest and times to grow.

I used to think working with the moon was more about folklore and "woo," something people did for fun or because of old traditions. But over time, as I paid more attention to how I felt during different moon phases—and dug into both the spiritual meaning and the science behind them—I realized there's so much more to it.

MY JOURNEY WITH THE MOON: FROM SKEPTIC TO ALIGNED

If I'm honest, my journey with the moon didn't start as a believer. I've always loved watching a big, glowing full moon rise, but I didn't think it had any real effect on my life.

That started to shift when I began noticing patterns. I would feel organized and full of ideas one week, and completely drained and emotional another—and when I checked the moon phase, I realized it often lined up. The more I worked with the moon intentionally—reflecting, setting intentions, and letting go of what wasn't serving me—the more I noticed real shifts in my life. Now, I see these cycles as natural guides that help me stay grounded and connected to myself.

THE SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE: THE MOON AS A MIRROR OF OUR INNER WORLD

Spiritually, the moon has long been seen as a symbol of the subconscious, emotions, and intuition. Each phase offers us something different—a new beginning, a chance to release, a time to pause and reflect.

When we learn to work with these phases instead of pushing through them, life starts to feel more aligned. We can use the New Moon to plant seeds of intention, the Full Moon to celebrate growth and release what holds us back, and the in-between phases to adjust and flow.

THE SCIENCE OF LUNAR CYCLES: NATURE'S RHYTHMS ARE OUR RHYTHMS

From a scientific perspective, the moon absolutely affects life on Earth. Its gravitational pull creates ocean tides, and studies have shown that the lunar cycle can even impact animal behaviours and plant growth.

While science hasn't fully mapped out all the ways the moon may influence human emotions and energy, we are part of nature. Just like the moon moves the oceans, it's not a stretch to think it might move something within us too—especially since we are made mostly of water.

BRIDGING THE GAP: MAKING MOON WORK PRACTICAL AND ACCESSIBLE

Whether you approach this from a spiritual place or scientific one (or, like me, somewhere in between), working with the moon can be a simple and beautiful way to tune into your own needs.

The moon gives us permission to pause, reflect, and move in cycles instead of always pushing forward. It reminds us that there are natural seasons of action and rest, growth and release—and that both are necessary for real change.

CONCLUSION

At the heart of it, working with the moon is about honouring your own natural rhythms—the parts of you that need time to grow and the parts that need time to rest. In a world that's always rushing forward, the moon offers a gentle reminder that it's okay to move in cycles, to ebb and flow.

So, whether you find yourself in a season of beginnings or endings, action or stillness, my hope is that tuning into the moon's wisdom can help you trust your own timing—and know that every phase has its purpose.
